Has anyone gotten this game yet? It came out last Friday, and I've heard some mixed reviews for it, some people say it's nearly the same game as the first, only with a couple new weapons, and the story is essentially a cut-and-paste of a bad horror movie.
Other people say it's nothing at all like the first, the Lancer has more damage, the Shotgun is weaker, Hammer of Dawn is practially useless, the new enemy Skorje or Scourge, or whatever his name is supposed to be, is a pushover, etc.

I've only played the first game, but as soon as I get my X-Box 360 I am so going out and buying it. The lancer is a kickass weapon, I mean a chainsaw graphed onto a fucking rifle? C'mon that is amazing.

I don't own Gears 2 yet. But..... I have played it, for a little while at least. May I say that it's pretty amazing. If you played Gears, than you're gonna love Gears 2 Here's a few things I noticed (might be wrong, haven't played Gears in forever ) : 1. The world is a much brighter, happier place than in Gears. At least what I noticed of the first few missions or so. I didn't get down into the tunnels, or delve into the worm that people keep talking about yet so, my judgement is pretty minimally based. I just found the brightness ironic considering humanity is on the brink of destruction.. AGAIN. 2. When you chainsaw someone, your entire screen is no longer coated in blood Kinda a bummer, bye bye cool factor, but it is really nice to be able to see what you are doing. 3. Now you can do the whole meat shield thing. That is, pick up a dead/wounded locust and use his body as a shield while you own everyone else with your pistol ! 4. The difficulty is about the same. Which is good because its not too hard, but challenging enough that you are going to die. Unless you're like GOD or something 5. I did notice that the env. seem better constructed. What I mean is that your starting location in a map/room is better placed, cover is expertly located - and very tactical I might add. Also, on the note of cover, it's pretty fucking amazing. It's set up so well that in most rooms ( at least of what I played) there are multiple ways of killing, sneaking up on, and pretty much slaughtering any locust. It was a lot of fun to roll around to cover, suppressive fire him behind cover, than rush and chainsaw him - only accomplished because of the awesome cover scheme, and env. layout. 6. AI is top-notch yet again. 7. I noticed that the mid-mission travel scenes - the ones where you have a certain objective (such as kill oncoming enemies or whatever) to ensure you get to location in one piece, are easier, but not to easy. I guess a better word would be manageable. Well that's my assessment so far. When I get enough money I'll go pick it up, or steal it from a buddy for a while I'll see if I got anything to add. I apologize for the length. O. and the new executions are insanely awesome!!
