Hello, and welcome to EpicFailings! This is a forum where anyone can post anything about anything - within reason. Please read these rules before posting a topic or replying to a post.
The Short Version
1. Do not annoy the staff. You have been warned.
2. Do not be selfish or a jerk.
3. Do not do anything at all that may impede normal, reasonable, on-topic discussion.
Administrators and forum moderators have complete and total discretion to determine whether any thread or post merits correctional actions such as locks, warnings, bans, or otherwise.
The Long Version
Below, we have fleshed out the rules and added some additional specific rules below. These rules apply to all posts in this forum, and it is your responsibility to read them. This thread serves as your only warning, and you may be warned and/or banned at the moderators' full discretion for violating any rule in this thread.
Spam is prohibited!
What is spamming?
The act of spamming is flooding communication services with duplicate messages in order to disrupt them. Spam is a general term moderators pin to a number of different situations.
Here on EpicFailings, the term "spam" is applied to any post that does not contribute to normal, reasonable, on-topic discussion on these forums. That includes, but is not limited to:
- All-caps thread titles and/or all-caps posts (unless specifically applicable to the subject of the thread)
- "Text-message" or "instant-messenger" shorthand posting (unless specifically applicable to the subject of the thread) For example, 'I c wut u did thar.' We have all been through fourth grade here. Act like it.
- Alternating caps and lower-case thread titles or posts (eXaMpLe)
- Threads that only require a one-liner reply such as a number or rank
- Rick Rolls
-"inb4[anything]"
- "youfail," "You Fail," "Epic Fail," "Phail," "youfail.org," or anything even remotely similar
- Posting "Banned," "Locked," "Enjoy your ban," "This will be locked," or anything similar.
- ASCII art, such as facepalm, middle finger, the care cup, or anything similar, unless there is a thread meant for such things in the Forum Game Area.
- Posts in any language other than readable and intelligible English, unless there is a thread about such a thing in the the Off Topic or Forum Games area.
- Typing upside down using an online translator
- Do not "break" the page width or forum formatting by repeating or special characters
- Posts that attempt to "catch attention" by using all-caps, false hyperlinks, or all-bold/italics/underline.
- "This or that" threads, such as "COD4 or Halo 3? Discuss." or "Apples or Oranges?" These threads will be given their own sticky in the Forum Games Area, only one such thread is needed.
- Biased, unfair, irrelevant, non-contributory, or one-sided polls.
- Any other post that does not contribute or encourage normal, intelligent, on-topic discussion as determined by any administrator or moderator.
Do not flame each other! Use your manners and common sense. If you disagree with someone, do so gracefully.
What counts as "flaming"?
The act of "flaming" is the act of attacking or insulting a person who posts, rather than the ideas expressed within the post itself. Your post should remain on-topic and focused on the subject matter of the thread rather than any individual user. Individual harassment of a specific user by one or more people is prohibited.
This does NOT mean you are not allowed to disagree with each other. Simply do so without insults, personal attacks, or disruptive comments. Debates will be monitored closely by the administration for rule-breaking. We are always watching.
Bumping is prohibited.
What is bumping?
"Bumping" is the act of posting in a thread solely to bring it back to the top of the forum. A general way to tell if your post is a bump is the following: if your reply is not an on-topic reply to another user's reply who posted after the last time that you did, your post is a bump. This is not an all-inclusive definition.
Do not troll!
What is trolling?
Trolling is any post designed to evoke an emotional or flaming response instead of an informed, well-reasoned reply. These posts are characterized by broad generalizations and personal accusations about specific people or groups of people rather than a well-reasoned assertion backed up with support. Just a few examples of trolling include:
- "All Jews (insert racist remark)"
- "Kids under 13 have squeaky voices and are all annoying"
- "All sports suck, and anyone who watches them should go die in a fire."
- "(User name) is an idiot!"
Parody or satire threads are a form of trolling. If you don't like the subject of someone's thread, ignore it.
"Do not feed the trolls" means do not respond to trolling, and is also strictly enforced.
Do not post off-topic or in the incorrect forum for the subject matter of your post.
If you are not sure what forum a thread belongs in, private message a moderator and ask before posting.
Topics about a forum itself are improper except in the Suggestions Forum. If the Suggestion Forum is not up, do not make a thread about it, simply PM am administrator.
Petitions and "sign here" threads are prohibited.
No political or religious discussion of any kind will be tolerated outside the political or religious discussion forums.
Do not link to inappropriate websites!
This includes, but is not limited to: sites containing adult content, information on any type of software piracy or shock sites. Gentlemen, we do not want to know what sites you go to to get off. Any violation of this will be met with a swift and permanent ban.
Impersonating forum moderators and/or Admins is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule results in a warning or ban, depending on the severity.
Buying and selling
Buying and selling items is allowed, as long as the object in question is appropriate. If you wish to make a thread for buying or selling, feel free, but only one such thread will be allowed, where everyone may post their items for sale. Again, no selling of illegal items such as weapons, drugs, or 'adult items'. You know what I mean.
Do not use the public forums to run contests or solicit donations! If you only need 100 more dollars to buy a new dirt bike and you want everyone to chip in, too bad. Get a job.
Profanity and Racism
Swearing not encouraged on this forum, but it is allowed. We will give some leeway, but constant swearing over and over repetitively will result in a warning, and multiple violations will be met with a temporary ban, depending on the severity. Keep it clean!
There will be NO THREADS WHATSOEVER about a certain race, religion, age, or nationality that shows them in a negative light or implies that they are better than others. This will be shown absolutely zero tolerance, and any violation will be met with a permanent ban. We're all human here, with the possible exception of Blendy. No one is quite sure what he is, but he claims to be a Vampire In A Blender, so I'll play along.
Reporting
If you see a thread or post that breaks one of the rules, notify a moderator via PM at once, and we will take care of the problem. Do not play 'forum cop' and say 'Hey man, this isn't allowed, ur gunna git banned!' Simply report and move on.
Suggestions for posting
*Use the spell checker after you are done typing your post. This will save you the hassle of going back and editing it.
*Don't use stupid abbreviations. (Example: Your = ur, You = u, Are = r, I = EYE, one = 1)
*Always check the stickies, they contain useful information and can likely answer most questions.
Punishment
Any violation of rules will be given a warning, with the exception of Racism and linking to pornography and other adult websites.
The Three Strike Rule
Any violator of the rules will be given three warnings. After all three warnings have been given, a ban will be put into place for a variable amount of time depending on the severity or the rule-breaking. No bans will be permanent unless you really go overboard. If a long enough time has gone between your strikes, they will be reset and you will be given a fresh start.
The rules apply to the Staff as well as the forum users! Moderators will be subject to the same rules as the average forumgoers, and if you see a Mod breaking the rules or abusing their power in any way, report them to the administrators! If at all possible, get a screenshot of the incident by pressing 'PRTSC', or 'print screen' at the top of your keyboards. Evidence goes a long way towards deciding the truth of the accuser's statement.
The Most Important Rule!
Never, ever, under any circumstances, must you ever feed the Wookie! He has digestive problems and gets cranky when his tummy gets a-rumblin'! Even the Administrators cannot save you from his wrath. You have been warned.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This may seem like a long list of oppressive rules, but if you look through them, we are not asking anything unreasonable.
We don't want to seem like we are trying to stop you from having fun. We're not. We hope you have a good time here, but no one wants to go to a place where they will be harassed, bullied, and cursed at for no other reason than the people doing it will receive no punishment.
No Moderator or Administrator wants to punish you. That's not how we roll. If we see you doing something you shouldn't, you will be given a warning (see the Three Strike Rule). Three chances should be more than enough to get our point across.
Now that you have finished reading the rules, we hope you have fun here, and if you have any problems, feel free to message one of the staff, and we will be happy to help you.
-This thread is subject to change without notice. You are responsible for reviewing this document periodically. Any excuse given that is along the lines of 'But I didn't know the rules!" will not save you. We do not have the patience to spoon feed you the rules, you read them on your own time before you begin posting.
